Teacher Awards & Grants
ISE meets its mission is by supporting teachers and students in a number of ways, including the following grants and discounts:
World Language Department Grant
This grant is given to World Language departments in which two ($500), three ($750) or four ($1000) departments in the same school travel with ISE in a 1- or 2-yr period with a minimum of 6 students per program. This is an opportunity for ISE to support and recognize the educational goals of World Language departments in schools who travel with ISE. This grant provides resources to support and enhance the educational experience of all students in the World Language department. ISE requests that recipients of this grant submit a report of how the money is used by August 31.
Language Matters Award
ISE provides a $250-$500 teacher award grant called the “ISE Language Matters Award” to AAT-organizations and select state world language teacher associations. Criteria:Excellence in teaching oral competence skills; provision of immersion experience for students.
This grant is currently available through the following organizations, who also manage the nomination and selection process:
- AATF – American Association of Teachers of French
- AATG – American Assoc. of Teachers of German (awarded at the Annual Mtg/ACTFL
- AATSP – American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese
- CCFLT – Colorado Congress of Foreign Language Teachers
- COFLT/WAFLT – Combined conference for Oregon & Washington state associations
- FLAM – Foreign Language Association of Missouri
- IWLA – Iowa World Language Association
- KSWLA – Kansas World Language Association
- MaFLA – Massachusetts Foreign Language Association
- MCTLC – Minnesota Council on the Teaching of Languages and Cultures
- MiWLA – Michigan World Language Association
- WAFLT – Wisconsin Association of Foreign Language Teachers
Classroom Grants
$100 Classroom Grant
Winners are drawn from the pool of conference attendees who submit an interest card when visiting ISE’s booth. Potential winners must be world language teachers who indicate an interest in travel to one or more countries, or in coordinating the US Hosting Program, for a given year.
$250 Classroom Grant
Any teacher with a minimum of 18 participating students on an ISE published or custom program receives this grant. The expectation is that the grant is to be used to benefit students in some way or to provide professional growth for the teacher. ISE requests that a report of how the money is used be submitted by August 31.
Teacher Alumnus Grant
This one-time grant ($200) is given to any teacher leading a group who first traveled with ISE as a student.
Teacher-Child Discount
ISE teachers/leaders who have children registered as a full participant on an ISE program receive a $200 discount per registered child.
