This is a sample itinerary. Your actual itinerary will be assigned by ISE in accordance with the family stay community. Other itineraries are also available. Daily activities and sightseeing will be chosen by the group leader(s).
DAY 1 DEPARTURE: En route to Frankfurt
DAY 2 ROTHENBURG ob der Tauber: Travel to this medieval city and explore its fortifications and winding lanes. Enjoy your ISE welcome dinner and a tour led by the Nachtwächter. (D)
DAYS 3 & 4 ALPINE REGION: Traveling south, visit one of King Ludwig’s castles and the Wieskirche. Learn about the craft of woodworking in Oberammergau or hike through the Partnachklamm in Garmisch. Ride a cable car and enjoy spectacular vistas of this lush region. (2B)
DAYS 5 & 6 MÜNCHEN: En route to München visit Dachau, the former concentration camp. Ride the U-Bahn and enjoy a guided bicycle tour. Explore the Viktualienmarkt for lunch and the Fußgängerzone for shopping. Don’t forget to watch the famous Glockenspiel am Marienplatz! (2B)
DAY 7 EXCURSION TO SALZBURG: Tour the Salzbergwerk in Berchtesgaden. After lunch, discover Salzburg’s Getreidegasse, Mozart’s Geburtshaus, and the Festung Hohensalzburg. Return to München in the evening. (B)
DAY 8 ERFURT: En route visit the Kaiserburg in Nürnberg. Don’t miss Erfurt’s famous Krämerbrücke and the vast Domplatz. Enjoy an Eis at an outdoor café on the Fischmarkt. (B)
DAY 9 ERFURT: Visit the Wartburg in Eisenach, or the charming city of Weimar, home of Goethe and the Bauhaus movement. (B)
DAYS 10-17 FAMILY STAY: This is the day you’ve been waiting for! You’ll spend eight unforgettable days getting to know your German Mutti, Vati und Geschwister. (Meals at home)
DAYS 18 & 19 BERLIN: Bid your host family farewell and head to the German capital! Visit Checkpoint Charlie and the Brandenburger Tor. Look out over Berlin from the glass dome of the Reichstag. Ride the S-Bahn from Bahnhof Zoo to Alexanderplatz. Explore the historic streets of Mitte and modern Potsdamer Platz. (2B)
DAY 20 Excursion to POTSDAM: Visit Schloß Cecilienhof where Truman, Churchill and Stalin met in 1945. Explore the royal Park Sanssouci. Return to Berlin for last-minute shopping and your ISE farewell dinner. (B,D)
DAY 21 DEPARTURE: Say “ Auf Wiedersehen” and return to the U.S. (B)

Air travel on Friday, Saturday or Sunday carries a $25/day weekend surcharge. Requests for specific travel dates or airline may incur additional charges. Itineraries that include flights to/from Austria or Switzerland, add $125-$150.
21-day Self-guided Program:Prices are based on a minimum group size of 32 students from combined schools and a minimum teacher/student ratio of 1:8. When minimum group size is not reached, a small-group supplement will apply.

- Land transportation (motorcoach or van as applicable)
- All overnight accommodations

(ISE recommends approximately $50 per day for meals and incidentals outside the family stay. The actual amount needed will vary by student.)
