Next Steps

Students

The next step is to evaluate how you spend your money now:

  • How much are those new expensive jeans or that video game you want?
  • How much do you spend per month on coffee? movie tickets? your cell phone? gas for your car?

Then consider how you can earn the money:

  • Can you hold off on buying those new jeans or that video game until you return?
  • How many babysitting jobs or lawns would you have to mow to earn the monthly amount?
  • Is a summer or part-time job feasible for you?
  • Do you have family members who may consider investing in you and your travels? Grandparents, aunts and uncles can always use a hint about what you’d like for your birthday!
  • Fundraising: check out these great fundraising ideas suggested by other ISE students and school groups
  • Are there businesses in your community that might be interested in sponsoring your travels in exchange for a presentation upon you return?
  • Track your saving progress online! A social networking site like SmartyPig.com lets you set a savings goal, share it with your social network and even accept online contributions from family and friends.

Remember, ISE also offers Financial Aid to those students who qualify. Check out the Grant Calculator to see if you do!
